20-Year Jail Term in Kanchanpur POCSO Case
Dharmanagar, August 30, 2026: The Special POCSO Court in Dharmanagar has sentenced an accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case involving the sexual abuse of a minor girl in Kanchanpur, North Tripura. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of non-payment. The accused was further sentenced to three months’ imprisonment under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The incident reportedly occurred in 2022 when the minor was staying at the hostel of St. Peter’s School. A case was registered at Kanchanpur Police Station on November 21, 2022. After examining 16 prosecution witnesses and relevant evidence, Judge Sudipta Chowdhury found the accused guilty. The verdict highlights the importance of protecting children.
