72-Hour Blockade Disrupts Assam-Agartala Highway and Rail Services

Agartala, September 4,2026: A 72-hour road and rail blockade called by former NLFT and ATTF members demanding 11 specific demands has triggered tension across Tripura’s hilly areas. Since Friday morning, protesters have blocked the Agartala-Haizamara road near Khowai Chowmuhani and the Baramura Hills, leaving hundreds of trucks, buses and small vehicles stranded and causing severe traffic congestion. Rail services have also been disrupted, causing hardship to passengers and daily commuters. Protesters reportedly burned tyres and wooden materials on the roads during demonstrations. Large contingents of police and Tripura State Rifles personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain order. The protesters demanded rehabilitation, financial assistance and fulfillment of government commitments.
