Agartala Road Accident Sparks Anger Over Underage Driving

Agartala, August 31,2026: A tragic road accident on Monday morning in the Western Club area of Akhaura Road, Agartala, has triggered public anger and raised serious concerns over road safety and underage driving. According to allegations by local residents and eyewitnesses, a car allegedly being used for driving practice lost control, hit an e-rickshaw and other people, killing two persons and injuring several others.

The most controversial allegation is that the car was allegedly driven by a 16-year-9-month-old girl, reportedly the daughter of senior Police Officer . Initial social-media claims reportedly suggested that her mother was driving, but later allegations identified the minor as the driver. These claims must be independently verified. Allegations of police attempts to suppress or minimise the driver\'s identity also require impartial investigation.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Section 199A specifically deals with offences committed by juveniles. It provides for imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of ₹25,000 for the guardian or vehicle owner, subject to legal exceptions. The vehicle\\\'s registration can also be cancelled for 12 months. The case has intensified demands for a transparent investigation and equal enforcement of traffic laws.
