Major Dhyan Chand Statue to be Unveiled in Agartala

Agartala, August29,2026: On National Sports Day, August 29, Agartala is set to honour legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand by unveiling his marble statue. The occasion has been made more significant by the arrival of his son, Arjuna Awardee and former Indian hockey star Ashok Kumar Singh. He was received in Tripura yesterday by Sports Minister Tinku Roy and warmly welcomed to the state. Ashok Kumar carried forward his father’s hockey legacy through exceptional talent and dedication. He represented India at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and was a key member of the Indian team that won the historic gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
