National Sports Day Celebrated, Dhyan Chand Statue Inaugurated
Agartala, August 29, 2026: National Sports Day was observed at Badharghat Sports Complex with a state-level programme highlighting the importance of sports in building a disciplined and healthy society. Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha addressed the gathering and inaugurated a statue of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion. Sports Minister Tinku Roy was also present at the programme. The Chief Minister emphasised that sports promote discipline, moral values and a sense of responsibility among the youth. He said the state government, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working to expand opportunities and improve sports infrastructure in Tripura. Olympian and Arjuna Award-winning hockey player Ashok Kumar, son of Major Dhyan Chand, also attended the event. His presence added special significance and inspired young athletes to pursue sports with dedication and determination.
