Questions Raised Over Funds Collected for Manoshree’s Treatment

Agartala, September 13,2026: Questions have been raised over the funds collected in the name of treatment of child patient Manoshree Chowdhury, who was reportedly suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, a rare genetic disorder.

According to a report circulating on social media and attributed to information from the state Health Department, the Union Finance Ministry had allocated Rs 50 lakh for Manoshree’s treatment, while Tata Trusts reportedly provided another Rs 20 lakh following a request from the state Health Department. Donations were also reportedly collected from people in Tripura and outside the state, with the claimed total exceeding Rs 10 crore.

Manoshree received treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh, where the reported expenditure was around Rs 2.29 lakh. The report further claimed that the Centre of Excellence in Dibrugarh supplied the required medicines.

Questions have now been raised regarding funds reportedly collected for the expensive Zolgensma injection. Doctors allegedly stated that the injection was not currently required for Manoshree. The allegations have prompted calls for a high-level investigation to establish the amount collected, how the funds were utilised, and whether any financial irregularities occurred. The claims remain allegations pending official investigation and verification.
