Tripura Achieves Zero Primary School Dropout Rate

Agartala, September 9,2026: Tripura has achieved a significant milestone in education by bringing the primary school dropout rate down to zero during the 2025-26 academic year. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced this while addressing the International Literacy Day and ULLAS Mela 2026 in New Delhi on September 8.

According to UDISE+ data, the state’s primary dropout rate declined from 2.21 percent in 2013-14 to zero in 2025-26. The dropout rate among students in Classes IX and X also fell sharply, from 25.51 percent to 10.40 percent during the same period.

The government aims to reduce secondary-level dropouts further over the next three to four years. It is also planning modern residential schools in remote areas with low enrolment.

Additionally, Balvatika, a one-year pre-school programme, will be introduced in all 2,048 primary schools within the next two years to strengthen foundational learning.
